We have been traveling from Oregon to Montana for the past 8 years since our son and his family moved to Kalispell. Most of the time we have been in one of our RVs, but occasionally it is just by car. The trip is 600 miles and we like to break it up by spending a night somewhere. Very early in our travels of this route from Kennewick/Pasco, WA to Spokane, WA we found Country Mercantile. What a treasure it is. Not only does it have fresh fruits and veggies in season, but it has the best homemade ice cream, salsa, chips, tamales, enchiladas and deli sandwich, wraps and soup bar around. They have homemade salsa of all sorts of flavors and homemade corn chips to go with it.
They have recently taken out their knickknack store and added gourmet chocolates, fudge and truffles to their products. There are always samples available to tempt your willpower and the friendly staff makes it hard to say “no.”
In addition they have a large selection of gourmet food including jams and jellies, sauces, pickles, dry mixes, hot sauce, honey and much, much more. They have a page on their website listing what is in season so you can plan your trip.
We always choose 2 different sandwiches then share one for dinner and keep the next one for lunch during the next day’s travels.
One bonus for us, is that they have a very large parking area behind the store where we have spent the night on several occasions. As usual with stores offering overnight parking, we always ask before assuming that we can stay there.
